Zofia & Co. is a Team of Professional Nantucket Photographers
Zofia's professional photography career started when a friend took a chance on her straight out of high school in the fall of 1996. For the next few years she moved from ski mountain to ski mountain, snowboarding as much as possible and picking up photography clients in the summers. Her first Nantucket wedding was in 2001, and she has been based year-round on island since her oldest daughter was born 4 years later.
The Co. in Zofia & Co. formed in 2010, when work got too busy and she decided to expand the company to include a small team of awesome photographers.
Mark Crosby was one of her first associates, and pretty quickly also became her husband and business partner.
Along with Becky, Kristen and Taylor, Zofia & Co. photographs nearly 100 portrait sessions and 30 Nantucket weddings a season, and commercial photography in their 'spare time'.
We enjoy becoming friends with our wedding couples and seeing them come back with their families year after year for portrait sessions.
ZOFIA CROSBY Lead Photographer, Mark's Wife, Former Snowboard Bum
Photographing people is my life long career. Photography is not my side hustle or something I picked up as a mom, it’s been my whole world since I was a teenager. Aside from a brief stint as a ski/snowboard bum in Killington, Mammoth and Aspen (who could blame me?!), it’s the only profession I have ever known.
My very transient upbringing, and subsequent introverted personality, caused me to be a people watcher from afar. I'm always scanning a scene, seeing things that perhaps those actually engaged in conversations don't notice.
Q- WHAT'S THE STORY BEHIND YOUR NAME?
I was born in Poland to a kick ass hippie mother. Zofia is the Polish version of Sophia. You can also call me Z, Zo, or Zoe. We moved around quite a bit when I was little, from Austria to the States, from NJ to Los Angeles in the 80s. I’m still taken back to the beaches of Malibu every time I hear Borderline by Madonna.
Q- WHAT WERE YOU BEFORE YOU BECAME A PRO PHOTOGRAPHER?
A student! I learned black and white photography in the darkroom at 13 in junior high. I photographed my first wedding straight out of high school, the same year the first flip phone was introduced (oof). I never saw photography as the cool, trendy thing to do as it’s become now through the internet and social media. It was an art I really enjoyed, but it was still pretty nerdy. I started in photography when photographing weddings was seriously UNCOOL.
I had one 9-5 desk job. I lasted 10 days.
Q- HOW HAVE YOU SEEN THE PHOTOGRAPHY INDUSTRY CHANGE?
I remember when photographers were primarily safari vest wearing men, and we were posing the bride with bouquets around her gown's train (Google it!) I’m thankful that social media has upped everyone’s game. I’ve evolved with the times, but what hasn’t changed has been my goal, vision and purpose for photographing people and moments.
Q- WHAT DO YOU DURING THE OFF SEASON?
I love to snowboard. In a former life I was a ski/snowboard photographer in Killington, Mammoth and Aspen. I trade my snowboard for a paddle board in the summer. Sorry, I’ve never skied. I’m a single planker for life. I’m also really into books. You can follow me on Goodreads, and please recommend your favorites! The off season on Nantucket is pretty special, it's our time to unwind. I also serve on local boards and committees such as the Photographers Alliance of Nantucket, Dreamcatcher and Luna Fest.
Q- WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT LIVING ON NANTUCKET?
I used to think a big city was for me. There was a time in high school that I dreamed of moving to NYC or Paris and becoming a fashion photographer and mens clothing designer. But I have found peace here in Pleasantville surrounded by the quiet ocean, and couldn’t imagine living anywhere else with Mark and our girls. The winters can be grey, but I really love the quiet time. We also travel in the off season to the Bahamas, Iceland, Mexico or England to explore.
MARK CROSBY Lead Photographer, Zofia's Husband, Avid Gardener
Washed ashore on Nantucket from Newcastle, England, I fell in love with the island's landscapes as created with my various film and Polaroid cameras, Lomo and Holga. Ten years later, I fell in love with Zofia.
Q- WHAT'S YOUR FAVE WEDDING MOMENT?
One of my grooms got thrown into the water at Galley Beach during his wedding reception last summer. He was a good sport about it, and a ton of guests followed. It made for a really wet and fun dance floor!
Q- WHAT WOULD SURPRISE ME ABOUT YOU?
I was a graffiti artist in Newcastle, England where I was born and raised. I also played bass in an Indie band with friends out of college.
Q- WHAT MUSIC DID YOU LISTEN TO AS A TEEN?
I listened to a lot of Depeche Mode and Sugarcubes. And all the British music that will either age me or make my wife cringe.
Q- DREAM DESTINATION?
I'd be thrilled to go to Cuba and photograph the people and environment, explore and eat everything. I'm afraid I might like it too much and never want to leave.
Q- WHAT IS YOUR WINTER HOBBY?
We are so busy in the summer that I love catching up on home improvement. I spent the last couple winters renovating our kitchen and our daughters' bathroom. I also love scalloping with friends in the fall, and getting my hands dirty with landscaping.
BECKY Associate Photographer
Becky Holdgate Zadroga was born and raised on Nantucket, and is a lover of boating, fishing, trips to Tuckernuck and travel.
She's been photographing weddings, events and portraits as a lead and second photographer since 2013, and joined our team in 2016. The natural and organic vibe of her photography is a great complement to our style. That vibe is clearly rooted in her love of the sea and the outdoors.
Becky considers her Island upbringing a gift. Time with family was often spent summering on a smaller island off Nantucket named Muskeget, where she learned boating and fishing skills and how to live off the bounty of the ocean. Now married and with a family of her own, Becky and husband Jerry are carrying on the family traditions with their two teenagers. Summertime for the Zadrogas is synonymous with weekend excursions boating to nearby Tuckernuck Island and camping there with friends.
The Zadrogas enjoy traveling to other destinations as well, including Rome, London, Dubai, Ireland, Aspen, Vermont, the Carribean, and Florida. Becky would love to return to Italy to explore its rich history with her son and daughter, before they leave the nest. If only time didn't go by so fast!!! In the offseason, Becky enjoys preparing new recipes from her collection of cooking magazines. Once the weather warms up, she will incorporate items from her vegetable garden into those recipes. She also enjoys tending to her flower garden and walking the local beaches with the family's two English Cream Golden Retrievers. Did we mention she likes to stay busy?
As well as working alongside Zofia and Mark, Becky is available as a lead wedding photographer.
KRISTEN Associate Photographer
Kristen called the west coast home for the first 20+ years of her life. But even as a young desert girl in Scottsdale, Arizona, and all through college in Southern California, she heard and couldn't resist the east coast calling. After six years working as an NYC lawyer at a big international firm, Kristen's heart yearned for something different, so she leapt from the corporate world to a job that allowed her enough time to explore her passion for photography. Soon she was carrying her Canon everywhere she went, and began to realize that she was responding to yet another calling: that of turning her beloved hobby into a career.
She launched her own photography business in New York in 2017. A few months later, life unexpectedly brought Kristen, her husband Tim, and their golden retriever Hudson to Boston. They now happily split their time between Boston and Nantucket. Tim’s family has a long history on the island. Tim and his siblings have worked everywhere from Juice Guys to Eye of the Needle to the Marine & Shellfish Department, protecting the island’s piping plovers.
Kristen’s favorite part of the island is the conservation land, including the many trails where she and Tim take long walks with Hudson and look for birds (while Hudson sniffs all the sniffs).
TAYLOR Office Manager, Photography Assistant, Our Everything
We're so lucky to have Taylor on board since 2015 as our studio manager. She's fielding phone calls and email inquiries, editing photos, designing albums, and perking up little kids at portrait sessions.
When not working as the backbone for the Co. she teaches kindergarten at the Nantucket Elementary School, walks her dog, listens to crime podcasts and makes amazing air fryer donuts.
But enough about us, let's talk about you. How would you like to work with us?! Contact Zofia & Co. ASAP with your wedding, portrait or event plans!
